UNDER AGE
YOUTHS SUPPLIED WITH BEER HOTEL LICENSEE FINED. Per Press Association. PALMERSTON N., May 24. In the Police Court John Joseph. Swiggs, licensee of the Princess Hotel, was charged with supplying liquor to persons under 21 years of age, and with selling liquor when the premises Were required to be closed. The case was the outcome of an earlier case when two hoys, 16 and 15 years of age respectively, were charged with throwing bottles at a train and narrowly missing the driver. The hoys stated to the police that they purchased fourteen bottles of beer at the hotel, and the youths, in evidence. said they purchased the liquor from the licensee in person. The defendant admitted selling the liquor, but stated that he had asked the youths their age, and had been told they were over twenty-one. Also the sale was at 6 o’clock. Tho defendant w-as fined £lO with costs £3, and his license endorsed.
