KING’S THEATRE
“HIS PEOPLE.” At the King’s Theatre this week is “His People,” a Universal film starring Rudolph Schildkraut. It tells of an- old Rabbi and his two sons, and tells how the favoured son spurns bis parents and denies liis religion ; how the younger son, who was disowned by his father, returns and unknown to the aged and broken man brings joy to the patriarch’s last days; the sacrifice of the old rabbi for his ungrateful Morris, and the eventual recognition of the wronged Sammy, all are artfully portrayed, in this human document. Scenes of squalor and comfort, the crowded Ghetto actually filmed in New York’s Lower East Side, a never-to-be-forgotten snow storm, a championship prizefight, aTe but a few of the realistic sights awaiting one at the King’s Theatre. Tho cast of “Hia People” includes Rosa Rosanova, George Lewis, Arthur Lubin, Kate Price, Blanche Mehaffey, Nat Carr, Bertram Marburgh, Virginia Brown Faire, Edgar Kennedy, Otto Lederer, Sidnev Franklin, Bobby Gordon, Albert Bushalano, Harry Tenbrook, and Charles Sullivan. A good supporting bill and specially selected musio by Mr A. H. Jerome’s orchestra complete the programme. OPERA HOUSE WEDNESDAY WEEK The season will commence at the' Grand Opera House on Wednesday week, June 2nd, at 2.30, of the combined theatrical attractions, Sir John Martin Harvey in “The Only Way,” and the Sunbeam Children from Sydney in “The Wedding of Baby Kerr.” The season is a limited one, and it has been decided to run matiness of the full “show,” including the operatic orchestra, every afternoon in order that the greatest number of people may be given the opportunity of witnessing the attractions. The twelvereel masterpiece of the screen, “The Only Way,” was produced in England as a challenge to American film supremacy, and so successful was it that America herself purchased it for distribution. It is the screen adaptation of Charles Dickens’s “Tale of Two Cities,” which has been presented on the legitimate stage in England by Sir John Martin Harvey under the title of “The Only Way.” Contained in twelve reels it has been hailed as one of the greatest masterpieces of the 6creen. The Sunbeam Children from Sydney were selected to associate with this screen attraction. The Sunbeams in Australia have appeared with conspicuous success at the Haymarket Theatre, Sydney, and the Tivoli Theatre, Brisbane. They will be seen in “The Wedding of Baby Kerr.” Amongst the specialties of the “wedding” is the performance of the Sunbeam Royal “Midget” Wonders, said to be the youngest team of whirlwind acrobats in the world. The whole of the Sunbeam Company will be appearing in New Zealand for the first time. The box plan is now open at the Bristol. ~
