Total G Total 4 THE WELLINCTON CLUB The jubilco of the Wellington Chess Club is to be celebrated next month, the club having been founded on June 16th, 187 G. On this occasion members will be found looking back with much pleasure on a happy and successful past, and also looking forward to the future with hope. A special general meeting is being held this week to finalise the programme tentatively drawn up by the committee. At this meeting members will also be asked to consider the new club and ladder rules that it is proposed to issue in booklet form, ns the club's rules have been out of print for some years. The most notable change that is suggested in the ladder rules is the provision made for widening the area of challenge. It is proposed to allow a member to challenge the lowest of the live players above him that is disengaged! If this remit be adopted a member will be able to challenge the player five rungs higher than himself if the intervening four players have matches pending or in progress. It is hoped that in this way the present gratifying popularity of ladder matches will be still further increased.
