LOWER HUTT AFFAIRS
BOROUGH COUNCIL AIEETIXG. The fortnightly meeting of the Lowe* Hutt Borough Council was held last night. Present were Mr W. T. Strand (Alayor), Councillors W. Meldrum, D. Waldie, J. Mitchell, L. T. Watkins. A. Grierson, A J. Hobbs, and Hunt. The Hutt River Board informed the council that it had decided to include Waiwetu, Opaku. and Te Awamutu streams in its jurisdiction. The Wellington Automibne Association urged that a by-law be introduced prohibiting cyclists from using the bitumen track on the main road, and that the attention of the police be called to the number of cyclists who ride at night without lights. Councillors stated that a danger did exist on account of cyclists riding without lights. Councillor Hunt was appointed to represent the borough at the meeting to bo hold in respect of the motor-'bus traffic. Additional postal-boxes are required, and application to this end is to be made to the department. A motion by- Councillor Watkins, tt> the effect that garages be built not less than 10ft from a street boundary, without special permission of the council, was carried.
