WAR RENEWED IN CHINA
RED ARMY REORGANISED MUNITIONS FROM RUSSIA. Reuter’s Telegram. PEKING, May 23. The allied leaders Wii Pei-fu and Chang Tso-lin, after the capture of Peking, allowed the Kuo Min Shun or Red army to withdraw to the strong Nankow Pass, north-west of Peking, practically unmolested. Wu Pei-fu and Chang Tso-lin have been busy concentrating troops in Peking in order to control the future Government; lienee the Kuo Min Chun, despite the loss of their leader, Feng Yu-hsiang, have been able to reorganise their armies and obtain large supplies of munitions frbm Russia through Mongolia. Thus strengthened, the Reds have now launched a heavy attack on Shansi, which is known as the “model province,” being the best-governed in China. The Reds penetrated Shansi in six directions. The fighting lias been heavy, but hitherto indecisive. TARIFF CONFERENCE HALTED. TOKIO, May 23. The Japanese delegate, now at Shanghai, lias issued a statement that the Tariff Conference has been brought to a standstill owing to the dissolution of Tuan Chi-jui’s provisional Government.
