OPTIONAL OR OBLIGATORY? 1 FEDERAL UNIONS’ DISPUTE. Australian and N.Z Cable Association. SYDNEY, April 29. Tho men working under Federal awards in the metal trades are in no way perturbed by the threatened action of the employers to dismiss any employee who works less than 48 hours a week. The men are resolutely determined to continue under the present conditions They state that if the employers put their threat into effect it will amount to a lock-out, and will therefore constitute a breach of the Crimes Act.
They an y_ that the Federal awards prescribed that “no more than 48 hours shall bo worked.” They do not prevent the men from working less than 48.
