ALLEGED ROBBERY

MAGISTRATE DISMISSES CHARGE NO CORROBORATIVE EVIDENCE. At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Mr It. Page, S.M., William Mills, a fireman, aged 26, was charged with robbery and assault. The complainant was Charles Albert Johnson, a seaman, who said that he met accused at an hotel, and “shouted” for him several times. Later complainant went home, followed by accused, who asked him _ for more monev. Complainant told him that he had [given him enough money that day. Accused then hit Johnson on the jaw, and he knew nothing more until he woke up at about 6 p.m. Johnson then missed 18s from his pocket. When taxed with having stolen the money Mills said he had taken only 8s out of complainant’s pocket. Mills said that Johnson had given him tlie money as a loan, and denied hitting complainant and taking the money. The magistrate dismissed the charge on the ’ground that there was not sufficient evidence to send the accused up foj trial.
