BAND CONTEST

IN WELLINGTON NEXT YEAR

A meeting of the committee, which has in hand the organising of the Wellington band contest for 1927, was held this week, Mr H. D. Bennett presiding. Others present were Messrs E. Palliser." R. 'T. Bailey, R. Janson, T. Herd, H. Payne, H. Clark, H. W. Turner, O. Hull-Brown, J. Drew. C. A. Forrest,. G. G. Schwartz. F. Bra'ttle, S. Geary, W. Jupp and E. Nolan. Mr. Bennett, in response to the unanimous wish of the committee, agreed to again act as chairman. Mr' G. W Jenner was elected secretary and Mr R. T. Bailey was elected treasurer.

The following committees were set «p‘—Programme. Messrs T. Herd (c«mvenerl. E. Palliser, W. P. . McLachlan, and S. Geary. Finance and advertising, Messrs E. Palliser (convener), H. W. Turner, W. Appleton. W. P. McLachlan. C. A. Turner, and the convener of the reception and housing committee. Reception and housing, H. Baker (convener!, and all other members of the general committee.

Mr Palliser reported that the sneeinl committee which was empowered to order the test mnsic. had placed the order before the North Island Brass Band Association, who in turn had cabled England for the required number of copies. The offer of Mr HullBrown to donate three gold medals for the best cornet, euphonium and trom-

bone soloists respectively in the A grade test selection was accepted with thanks. This quite a new departure in solo competitions as far as New Zealand is concerned, as the soloists will be judged with hand accompaniments. Correspondence dealing with important matters in connection with the contest was dealt with, and altogether the meeting was most enthusiastic throughout.
