“45—NEVER BEEN KISSED!”
“I have never kissed or courted a girl in my life,” said William Torrens (45), a County Antrim farmer, who was the defendant in an Ulster breach of promise action. Miss Caroline Smith (25), a farmer s daughter, who sued him for damages, said Torrens often kissed her. Torrens then denied that he had ever courted, kissed, or talked to a girl or even bought sweets for one. There was a legal argument as to whether it was possible for a man of 45 to b© unkissed. Mr 1 Murphy, K. 0.. for the girl, argued that statement was untrue, hut the "“""Ter Attorney-Gene-ral, for Torrens, .asked: ‘M-Vh.v should it not ho true?” . - The jury awarded the girl £IOO damages.
