MOTOR REGISTRATION
A STEADY INCREASE AUCKLAND DISTRICT LEADING WELLINGTON CLOSE SECOND The steady increase in the number of motor vehicles registered in New Zealand is evident from the latest returns which tho Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. R. I\ Bollard)-made available yesterday. The returns show that at the end of February the total number of vehicles registered was 129,933, and at fheetad'of March the-figures had-grown to 132,811, made up as follows: — North Island. Cars ...,; 54,054 Trucks, etc 12,227 Cycles 15,276 Total‘s - - 81,557 South Island. Cars 33,951 Trucks, etc 5,418 Cycles 11,885 Total 51,254
Grand total ... 132,811 THE VARIOUS DISTRICTS. The details of the registrations show that in No 1 Highway District (Bay of Islands, Eden, Great Barrier., Hobson, Hokianga, Manconui, Otamatea, Rodney, Waitemata, Wliangarei, Wjhangaroa), 16.954 vehicles were registered. In the other highway districts the figures are as follow : No. 2 district (Coromandel, Franklin, Hauraki Plains, Manukau. Matamata, Ohincmuri, Piako. Raglan, Thames, 'Waikato, Waipa), 12.424. No. 3 district (Opotiki, Rotorua, Taupo, Tauranga, Whakatane), 2675. No. 4 district (Cook. Matakaoa, Uawa, Waiapu, Wamkohu), 2776. No. 5 district (Dannevirke, Hawke’s Bay.
