DEVIL’S ISLAND ESCAPE

A plea to the President of France to pardon an escaped convict who for 30 years has been a model husband, father, and citizen, is made by M. Robert de Tiers, the writer. Arrest me.” The village was astonished, but inquiries proved that when he was 20 he 'had been sentenced to five years’ hard labour for robbery with violence and sent to Devil's Jsland, the French penal settlement in French Guiana. Three times he escaped qnd was recaptured, until the fourth time he reached France in safety. He is now in Angouleme Gaol.
