DANISH TONNAGE IDLE. The latest figures of Danish laid-up tonnage show that 53 vessels, of 109,590 tons, are idle. N.Y.K. AND T.K.K. AMALGAMATE. At a meeting recently the directors of the Nippon Yusen Kaisha and the Toyo Kisen. Kaisha formally agreed to amalgamation, provided the Diet grants a subsidy whereby the Nippon Yusen Kaisha will be enabled to constmat superior trans-Pacific vessel's. The Toyo Kisen Kaisha will receive 125,000 shares from the Nippon Yusen Kaisha. NORWEGIAN MERCHANT FLEET. ' According to statistics prepared by the Norwegian Bureau of Shipping regarding the Norwegian merchant fleet, including soiling vessels of l 50 tons gross and over, and other vessels of 25 tons and . over, the fleet increased during 1925 by 84 vessels and 188,923 tons; steamers increased by 40 vessels and 63,551 tons, and motor vessels increased by 55 vessels and 149.061 tons. At the end of the year the fleet comprised 3699 vessels, of 2,787,804 tons gross, including 1968 , steamers, of 2,290,179 tons, and 1506 motor vessels, of -452,172 tons. The fleet is now larger than ever before; sailing vessels have fallen in number since 1914 from 1032, of 658,750 tons, to 225, of 45,453 tons. Of the 220 motor vessels added to the register during 1926, 29 newly-bnilt motor 'ships totalled over 150,000 tons. SALE OF CARDIFF STEAMER. The steamer POloevera, ,of about 14,200 tons dead Weight, the largest Cardiff steamer, owned by Mr H. J. Giffin, has been provisionally sold to the Norwegian Whaling Company fqr about £35,000. SHIP HAMBURG SOLD. A recent sale at Dublin, that of, the German steel, shin Hamburg, is of interest to Australia.
