GERMANS SEAR H IN VAIN Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. CAPBOWN, March 10. The German survey ship Meteor has arrived after eleven weeks’ exploration of the Southern Atlantic. Captain Spies reports that Thompson Island marked in British maps 80 miles northeast of Bouvet Island could not be • found, though many days were spent in the neighbourhood. German scientists are satisfied that they have proved the disappearance or non-existence of the island.
