ANOTHER NEW APPOINTMENT MR E. OASEY, DIVISIONAL SUPERINTENDENT. Mr W. H. Hales, who for the past year has been acting as divisional superintendent for the North Island, is retiring on superannuation from the Railway Department, and Mr E. Casey (Wellington), inspecting engineer of the Civil Engineering Department, has beep appoiited acting divisional superintendent. Mr Casey will assume tho position forthwith. Mr Casey has been in the Railway Department for a period of 23 years, joining tho engineering staff in Wellington in 1902, and serving subsequently in Wanganui, Auckland, Greymouth, and Ohakune. In 1912 Mr Casey took up the duties of assistant railway engineer in Auckland, and in 1915 supervised the regrading of the railway line betweeD Penrose and Mercer. In 1921 he was appointed assistant district railway engineer in Christchurch, and among other works supervised the additions to stations on the Christchurch side in connection with the opening of the West Coast railway. In 1924, Mr Cakey was appointed district engineer for the new work* in Auckland, and controlled the construction of the new Auckland yard and the Auckland-Wcstfield Railway deviation. Early this year he was appointed inspecting engineer of the Civil Engineering Department for the Dominion, with headquarters at Wellington In addition to his ordinary duties Mr Casey has served on numerous deactivities of every branch of the serpartincntal committees, covering the vice. lx, regard to outside activities, Mr Casey has always taken an active part in debating societies, and has gained numerous prizes at various competitions for impromptu speaking and debating. Mr Oasey is also well known in the football world, being a member of tbe Auckland Ruche Union, and resident delegate to tbe New Zealand Rugby Union.
