OBITUARY
CAPTAIN T. W. HAULTAIN. (By Telegraph'—Special to “Times.”) AUCKLAND, March 11. The death occurred this morning of Captain Theodore William Haultain, one of the oldest officers in the service of the Northern Steamship Company, having nearly completed forty years. He had been in ill-health-for some time, hut was still on the staff of the company at the time of his death. Deceased was born in Auckland, being the eldest son of the late Hon. Colonel Haultain, who was Minister for Defence at the time af the Waikato War. Captain Haultain took up a seafaring career, and was at one time running to India. He then entered the service of the Northern Company. A great test of endurance was endured by Captain Haultain many years ago. One night he was knocked overboard from the ketch Reliance, , off Whangarei Heads. It was thought he was drowned, but next day the captain was found lying on one of the beaches with only a singlet/ on. He had survived being in a heavy sea all night and managed to reach the shore, although a stiff sou’-wester was blowing at the time. Deceased is survived by his wife and the following children: Messrs T. S. Haultain, D. Haultain, Mrs L. Bruce, of Wellington, and Mrs G. Bretherston, of Hastings.
