STATEMENT BY MAYOR ! WAINUI SUPPLY TEMPORARILY CUT OFF “EVERY PRECAUTION TO I CONSERVE SUPPLY” In regard to the present shortage of water in the oity reservoirs, His Worship the Mayor (Mr C. J. B. Norwood) made the following statements* to a “Times” reporter last evening. * “On account o 7 the reducing water' level in the city reservoirs,” said Mr Norwood, “residents are requested to be careful with the water supply until such time as the reservoirs resume their normal levels.” “The supply from Wainui will be completely cut off at midday on Sat-’ urday for the purpose of making a’ connection between tho present mains* and the higher reservoir (Morton 1 dam) at Wainui. “During this time Wellington will be dependant solely npon .the city and Karori reservoirs for the water supply. “It is expected that this connectioncan be made and the water turned on< within twenty-four hours. • “NO REASON TO EXPECT INCONVENIENCE” “It will therefore he most import-, ant,” said Mr Norwood, “that reei-. dents take every precaution to con-, serve the water supply on Saturday j afternoon and Sunday. j “If this is done, there is no reason, to expect the slightest inconvenience;: fo any consumer, while the incerased* pressure during the daytime causedby this change should materially help to overcome the shortage of supplies which have been experienced of. late.”
