THE LURE OF PAKAPOO
POLICE RAID GAMING HOUSES EUROPEAN FOUND ON PREMISES. As the result of police investigations, early yesterday afternoon, a pohoe party from the Mount Cook station, consisting of Sergeant Joyoe and a hum. her ■of constables, conducted a raid upon three dwellinghouses in the Chinese quarter. In each instance, Europeans were discovered playing pakapoo, while a goodly array of various gaming paraphernalia was , also discovered.
Three Celestials, At Lee, of 11, Haining street; Louis Wing, residing at 111, Tory street; and Wong Gun, of 136, Taranaki street, will Appear in the Magistrate’s Court this morning charged with conducting common gaming houses. Seven Europeans .by names A. F. Bradley, F. O. Shelton, S. W. Martin, F. Pepper j P. Ward, R. Sharpe, and James Kavanagh, found on the various premises, will also appear before the court.
