AT HIS MAJESTY’S

“ON THE WHEEL” AND VAUDEVILLE.

The screaming fane, “On the Wheel,!’, which is drawing crowded houses at His Majesty’s this week, is a striking example of the excellent - revues which Phil. Smith and his talented company are in the habit of presenting. Tho characters in the piece are all worthy descendants of Ananias —in fact they are 20th century improvements on him The story tells of -a commercial traveller’s wife who gets %tuok in mid-air on a joy-wheel with an elderly man for a companion. Incidentally the man is married. That is where the fun starts. It' takes a good deal of ingenuity on the part ot the unfortunate people to explain matters, Of course the lady’s hushnnd, and her companion’s wife, are not as flawless as crystal. However, 1 all s well that ends well,’’ and the revue does end well. . . Nothing funnier can be imagined than Phil Smith and Nat Hanley. They are comedians of the first rank Peggy Peate. Phvllis Nicholson, Nellie Dean, and Robert Raymond are all heard to advantage, while Charles Megan and Mildred O’Brien delight with their dancing, ■ William Green is a valuable member of the show. The Smiling Six are most nonulnr in all their work, especially their dancing. Tn the vaudeville half, Leslie Elliottstill causes the audience to shriek with laughter at her humourous songs at the piano. Bella and Morris are popular in song and patter, while Cardim continues to mystify everyone with his plever tricks. His turn is neat. David and Queenie Kaili, the Hawaiian entertainers, present a turn which is well worth seeing. Bert Elliott does some clever juggling .with hats. Mr Frank Crovvtlier’s orchestra provides good music for the show.
