BUSH VANDALS

INDIGNANT COUNCILLORS BUSH AT AKATARAWA. Indignation was expressed at yesterday’s meeting of the Hutt County Council at the vandalism at the rerserve at Akatarawa. It was complained that picnickers did not hesitate to cut down beautiful native plants and ferns, and build fires against trees, burning the bark off and gradually destroying one of the most picturesque pieces of bush scenery near the city. Then, to c-p the matter, the Defence Department had commenced a camp there, and trees were being cut down indiscriminately. It was decided to instruct the caretaker of the reserve to secure prosecutions wherever members of the public were detected destroying the bush, and to approach the Defence Dopartment in regard to having the campers instructed to refrain from cut ting down trees and ferns.
