The slump on the Stock Exchange in New York and elsewhere in the United States is now being .felt in trade ciroles throughout the whole country. Saving has caused a general depression in buying. It is estimated that four million dol lars changed handt during the Inst few days, the winners being mostly men already prosperous, while the losers constituted a considerable section of the buying public. As a result the department stores and other retailers have noted a marked decrease in sales. Automobile firms also have suffered, and they are considering reducing prices to stimulate business. Many fashionable dressmakers have received cancellations of orders. Even the theatres aTe feeling the pinch, through loss of patronage.
