WHEAT-GROWING
FARMERS WANT A COMMISSION TO PLACE GROWING ON SOUND BASTS. The question of growing sufficient wheat in New Zealand for the country’s requirements was discussed at length bv the Dominion Executive of the New‘Zeal and Farmers’ Union. The following suggestions were put before tbe meeting by Mr I. *J. Corson on behalf of tlie flonrmillers, as a basis for inquiry by a Government commission : (1) To make New Zealand wheat prices an average of 7s 3d f.0.b., all sacks extra. (2) The Government to import balance of wheat required and distribute I. - ...q linoc similar to nhov rt (3) Institute Government conTrol ■vvi+Ti nn embargo on flour.
After a lengthy, discussion a the matter was referred to a committee consisting of Messrs Bitchener, Cameron, Hall, '"'and Forrester, who reported ns follow: “The representatives of the whentgrowere have considered the letter received from Mr Corson, and are of opinion that the suggestion ‘To set up a commission of inquiry into the conditions of wheatgrowing, with a view to arriving at pome definite policy to place the wheat industry on a permanent basis, to ensure the production of onr own requirements is a reasonable one and should be sunuorted bv the executive. This course was agreed to.
