REVOLT IN PORTUGAL
LISBON BOMBARDED THREE HOURS’ DUEL Reuter’s Telegram LONDON, February 3. An indication of another revolt in Portugal is contained in a cryptic report from Lisbon to the effect .that the city, threatened with investment and bombardment b.y revolutionaries, surrendered unconditionally. Earlier dispatches were presumably held up by the censor. REVOLUTIONARIES ARRESTED Australian and N.Z Cable Association (Received February 4, 7.45 p.m.) LISBON, February 4. The rising lasted twenty-four hours. jThe prisoners taken numbered 120 including Major Almeida, who was in command of two batteries of artillery which were concentrated at Almada opposite to Lisbon, and which fired a number of shells towards the capital injuring fifteen people and damaging a number of houses. The fortress San Jorge replied vigorously, and the duel lasted for three hours. A rigorouss ta.ge of siege was established, and order restored. Tho leaders are imprisoned on a cruiser."
