The track was much faster than on the first day. Ihe attendance was large, and there was again splendid racing. the leading pair. In the run home, Windbag took charge, and won comfortably by half a length from Royal Mint, with Midnight Camp a nose away third. Bent was fourth, and Petal fifth. RACE FOR THE STAKES Bright Day was sorted out as the most hkely winner of the Tonks Stakes, for which eight started. Yomn, Surveyor, aud Town Bank were all well backed. Town Bank took charge at the start, but Yoma led past the stand from Town Bank, Imperial Spark, Vaward, and Income. Turing into the back stretch, Yoma led from Vaward, Town Bank, Bright Day, and Income. At the six furlongs Vaward was at the head of affairs, but Bright Day ran to the front mid showed the way to Vaward, Yoma, Town Bank, and Surveyor round tho bend and into tho straight. Here Surveyor made his effort, and wns it) front 150 yards from the post and stalled off a challenge from Imperial Spark to win by three-quarters of a length. Bright Day was half n length away third, Town Bank was fourth, and then came Yoma, Income, and Clarinda. The first six furlongs took lmin 2isec. Eleven started in the More Mere Hack Flat, for which First Acre was a very strong fancy. ISmpire Camp was also solidly backed, and there was good money xfor both Willow Wat and Horomea. From an even start Empire Camp was the quickest into his stride, but was knocked back, and Argue took charge. He opened up a big gap, being four lengths ahead of First Acre at the four furlongs, with Horomea and Willow Wai next. Tho order of the leaders was the same into the straight, where First Aero tackled Argue, and Horomea also looked dangerous. Then Glengnriff came with a great run and challenged First Acre, but the latter got the verdict by a nose, with Argue half a length away third. Horomea wns fourth, anVl Willow Wai fifth. Empire Camp was next.

URALLA GETS HOME Snatcher was the only scratching from the Normnnby Welter, leaving a dozen to face the starter. Star Area was made* a slightly better favourite than Urnlla. Rrbutai ami Tactician also hn<l a fair number of supporters. Amber Tips was in front when they had settled down, with Star Area. Bay Billiton, Behutai. and Tactician following jn order. At the half mile Behutai was at the head of affairs from Amber Tips, Star Area, Attractive nnd Tactician, ns they turned into tho straight, and Rehntai still held command from Star Aren, with Attractive, Irnpuka, and Tactician nil handy. Once heads wore turned for home. Urnlla put in a good run, and, catching Tncticinn, who had taken the l«*ml at the distance, won by half a length, with Iranuka a hmd away, third, and Star Area fourth. Then came Attractive, Shuteye, ami Behutai.

There wore only five starters in £ho Miecf ric Handicap, Toapaiti being sent out a red-hot favourite. Sea Star was next in demand. The last named begnn smartly ant! led Atone and Toapaiti to tho bend. As they entered the

straight. Sea Star and Toapaiti were together in front of Gold Collector anjl Orcades. The last named come with a great rush over the last bit, and got uj) in time to dead heat with Sea Star, Gold Collector being a head away third. The favourite was two lengths away, fourth. Nine went to the post for the concluding event of the meeting, the Inalia Hack Flat. No Response was in most demand, but there was solid backing for Diogenes, Novar, and Kilmiss. At the start Captain Gazeley took charge from Kilmiss and Troilus, with Anchor and No Response at the head of tfie others. There was little change until approaching the turn for home, when Anchor moved up, followed by Lady Anstruther, Diogenes, and Novar. A good race down the straight ended in Novar winning from Diogenes by a head, with Lady Anstruther three lengths away. Anchor was fourth, and Kilmiss next.
