BEFORE THE COURT
CHINESE FINED HEAVILY THEFT CHARGES ADMITTED. Law offenders were dealt with before Mr E. Page, S.M., in the Police* Court yesterday as follow : Wong Tack, a Chinese, who appeared to answer a charge of having in his possession .opium in a form suitable for smoking, was convicted and fined <£3o, m default two months’ imprisonment. William Keenan, charged with behaving in a manner so as. to offend public decency, was convicted and fined Richard O'Connor, for deserting from the steamer Kumara, was convicted and ordered to forfeit <£lß, the amount of wages due to him. Robert Francis' Butler appeared on three charges of indecent exposure. After the hearing of lengthy evidence, the magistrate dismissed the case. Robert Irvine Owens, a labourer, aged 24 years, who appeared on six charges of breaking and encoring houses situated in Karori, Featherston street, and Grant road, and stealing therefrom numerous miscellaneous articles total value of <£Bo 11s 3d, pleaded guilty. ’■ The accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
