'YOU MURDERER !
CONVICTS ATTACK GOVERNOR RIOT IN THE CHAPEL. (Sydney “Sun" Cable.) LONDON, January 26. A mutinous scene, culminating in an attempt of 30 or 40 convicts to mob Major Benke, acting-governor of Pentonville Piison, occurred in tho prison chapel. The demonstration was a sequel to the suicide of a prisoner named Thornton, who hanged himself in his cell after Major Benke, as a disciplinary measure, had ordered the removal of the mattress. Half the prisoners had left the chapel when tne ringleader, evading the warders, rushed at Major Benke, shouting: “STou murderer 1 You killed Thornton.” Pandemonium followed, and the other convicts, yelling imprecations, rushed at Benke. The warders surrounded Benke until reinforcements cleared the chapel, - -
