Mr Stanley Baldwin, in a speech at a dinner given by the Unionist Association in London, said that unless great, economies Mere secured, an increase in taxation this year or next—whatever Government Mas in powerwould be inevitable. The Prime Minister thankfully noted hopeful signs of a trade improvement. He declared that economies must be made, »invo!ving sacrifices, not only of luxuries, "but of things almost in the category o? necessities. The eves of their opponents were fixed more on their spending than on their saving, and the Government would need the stoutest support of all friends on botl* sides
