RAZOR ATTACK ON POLICEMAN

When Constable Alsbury was attacked at Derby by a man with a a woman blew his whistle for help. With three wounds in his leg, the. constable was. taken to hospital, where his life for some days was despaired of. His assailant, William Jardine (18), a labourer, was sentenced at Derby Assizes to six years* penal servitude for wounding. Mr Justice Talbot told him he had. had a hairbreadth escape from a murder charge. Jardine’s attack followed the constable’s refusal to admit him to a dance hall.
