LETTERS

Dear Fairiel, —I am sufe you will think I am a funny little girl to get sick so often, for I have been in bed with influenza since I last wrote to you. Dear little Dawn is in bed now, and her faoe is quite swollen with it. Mother was going to drive us all over to Palmerston in the car to visit Santa Claus on Saturday, hut I am ; afraid Dawn will not be well enough. Do you like driving' in a Sedan, Fairiel? I think it is lovely. . . . no coats or hats to wear. On Friday, December. 18th, our school picnio is to be held at the river, and we have a Christmas tree at nigjht. It is such fun! Father Christmas comes down the chimney with a sack on his back, and he 'and the fairy queen give the presents off the tree. The children clap their hands with glee. Mother is going to take Dawn and Vyrn this year , to it. I think they will both be frightened as they have never -been out at night before. Thank you, Dear Fairiel, for the nioe name, and I am sure it will suit her well, for she units and raises her back sometimes. We have a new calf, and we call her Cherry. I am going to try the puzzle this week, but I . don’t suppose I shall get the right namev Did you get my little drawing with my last letterP And now I must wish you “good night,” Dear Fairiel. Love and kisses from Joy. JOY COOK, Hamua. ■* • » Dear Fairiel, —I did not write to you before as I have been \busy with school and music exams. I have been in for three mpsic exams, this year. . . . the last, one was last Saturday. A few weeks ago I went Wer the Waimii Hills with the St. Augustine Bov Scouts, of which I am one. After walking to the foot of the hill we rested awhile. Our next movement was to climb the “pipe track.” This track is about four feet wide and at about a 45 degrees slant to the next range. ( , About one mile up the track the tun. nel which supplies the water for Wellington was seen. Passing over the second range we then refreshed ourselves and had ten. , We reached home about seven o’clock, after having had a lesson on tho native shrubs about our camp fire. —Yours sincerely, * RAYNOR JONES, Petone. • * • 9 Dear Fairiel,—This will have to ho a very short letter, as I am writing before school. We have had our exams, and I wish I knew if I had passed or not. We are not going to have a school concert this year, .but> I think we are going to have an afternoon. I have some sweet pens, pinks, iceplants,' primroses, and 1 sweet williams i out in my gafflens at school. . . . for I have two. Christmas is getting near with the holidays. I should not like to be leaving school as I era or.lv eleven. I am in the fifth standard. Did you like leaving school? I am writing this letter at twenty past, six in the morning, so I must close with love to the Ring and you. —Your loving Ina. ' INA KINSELA, Martinborough. * * # # Dear Fairiel, —I cut the cat and her clothes out for Marjory, and she was very pleased with it, hut she wouldn’t let me colour them for her because she wanted to do it herself. You know tho dress with the frills? Well,

she coloured each one different. . . she did one green, one blue, and one red, and made it look a mess. Mother has made those "cocoanut jumbles,” and.they are very nice. > . I am tasting one now. We have had our exam., and I came sixth in the class and second in the girls. We are going to have a school concert on the eleventh of this month. It is going to be at night, and it costs Is for ladies and 2s for men. Mother says they are charging enough and I think so too, but I get in free heennes 1 am in it. lam in five or six songs. And would you believe it, the new school is open at last! It was opened by the Minister for Education, and I think we are going into it on day. Josy has not been very well. She has a very had cold.—l must close now. —Your little fairy, AUDREY BAOUMGREN, Kaiwarra.

This little piano requires three match boyes. After gumming them together as shown in the sketch, cut two matches the right length for legs. Then paste some white paper on toe keyboard, and draw the black and white “keys” on it. A. small piece of .paper can be pasted on the front for the musio sheet, and tiny bits of wire will make the candle sticks. WITH SEALING-WAX. All that is required to make them Is as many jars as there are vases want--ed (ancrovette jam are too best), and some coloured 'sealing-wax. Heat the sealing-wax, and while it is hot cover the jars with it. The vases are finished then, and they look quite nice With flowers in them.
