Prices are not so dear as many people imagined they would be. Corned round is 7d lb and brisket 6d; lamb lid for sides, hindquarters, and forequarters Is lb; shoulders of mutton 7d and 8d lb, forequarters 6d, and necks 5d lb; sirloin of beef 9d lb, ribs and topside 7d lb; filleted veal is 9d lb, other roasts 8d lb. Eggs are 2s dozen, assorted English pastes 7 tins for Is, jams 8d for lib and Is 3d for 21b tins, Xmas hams Is 3d lb, bacon Is to Is 6d lb, good table butter Is 7d and cooking butter Is Sd lb, muscatels Sd packet. \ Strawberries are Is -to 2s 6d box, oranges range from 2s to 4s dozen, plums 6d lb, apricots 8d lb (cooking) and Is 3d lb (eating), peaches 8d lb (cooking) and Is 3d lb (eating).
