GENERAL JOTTINGS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) MASTERTON, November 17. The best scores in the Opaki Rifle Olub’s competition on Saturday for the trophy donated by the late Mrs Donald Donald, were:—S. McKay 93, J. McKenzie 92, It. J, King 92, I. Rutherford 92. J. Morris 92, W. L. Free 91, G. Hood 90, V. E. Donald 90, H. King 90, E. M. Wrigley 90, R. McPherson 90. Top scores of the rifle were made by R. J. King and J. McKenzie. The death occurred at Carterton on Saturday afternoon of Mrs Elizabeth Mary Gregor, wife of Mr William Gregor, of Carterton. Deceased was 26 years of age, and the fourth daughter of Mr and Mrs T. W. Wyeth, of Masterton. The death occurred suddenly at Miramar on Saturday of Masson, wife of Mr W. T. Masson, of Carterton. She leaves a grown-np family. The Masterton Golf Club brought the season to a close on Saturday when a foursome competition was won by R. Hodgins and Miss Una James, and a putting competition bv Miss Robinson and J. Tooby 161, J. N. McLean 161, F. S. Allen 158. MASTERTON, November At Christchurch recently, Miss Ethel Annie Hoffman, daughter of Mr and Mrs F. Hoffman, of Christchurch, was married to Mr Arthur Leslie Bennett, of Masterton, only eon of Mrs E. Bennett, of Morningtcn, Dunedin. Miss Phyllis Hoffman was bridesmaid, and Mr R. Hutton (Mataura) best man.

The death occurred at Masterton last night of Mr James W. Wright, in his seventy-third year. Deceased was horn at Karori, and came to Wairarapa 53 years ago, being employed on the Hautotara estate of the late Mr E. Harris. He later engaged in contracting, and retired some years ago to come and live at Masterton. About 35 years ago deceased married a daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Harris, of Hautotara. He leaves a widow, a daughter (Mrs T. Manion, of Masterton) and one son (Mr J. W. Wright, of Masterton). There are at present 23 teachers and officers connected with the Masterton Methodist Sundav School and 445 scholars on the roll. Mr Richard Holes, of Okau. near Whakatoki, died yesterday, at the age of 73 years. Deceased was horn at the Upper Hutt, and came to the Wairarapa when a boy. He had lived at Okau for the past 32 years. He leaves a widow, two sisters (Mesdanies Carswell and Holmes) and one brother (Mr John Holes), who owns the station adjoining Okau. Prior to bis departure for Christchurch. Mr A. L. Bennett was made a number of presentations hy Masterton friends, the staff of the Wairarapa Farmers’ Meat Company, and the Soldiers’ Club.
