MORE SPORTS GROUNDS
AREA AT BERHAMPORE
EXCAVATIONS IN PROGRESS.
The provision of a new recreation and sports area is promised by the Berhampore School Committee, the Progressive Association, and the football olub, representatives of which waited on the _ reserves committee of the City. Council yesterday seeking assistance in th© levelling of eight and a half acres of land in Adelaide road. ' This piece of ground, it was stated, is an education -reserve, and has been given by the Education Board for recreation purposes. It was felt that if the assistance of the council in the use of the implements—for which the interested odies would pay—could lie secured, the city would benefit by increased sport. areaß, and the congestion on existing grounds would to a certain extent be relieved. ■ Councillor W. J. Thompson, chairmen, said the committee could not spend money on ground which did not belong to the citv, and the use of the implements would he secured through the engineer’s department. Members of the committee expressed gratification at the efforts being made to increase the facilities for outdoor sports, and advised tile deputation to pursue their representations in the correct quarter.
