PRICES AT WELLINGTON STORES Among to-day’s supplies of seasonable vegetables are obtainable new potatoes at 6d per lb, kumeras 3d lb, fresh artichokes 3d lb, tomatoes much cheaper at 6d to Bd, leeks Id to lid each, parsley 3d bunch, cauliflowers 6d to Is, celery 8d to lOd per bunch, and rhubarb, also cheap, at 4d to 6d per bunch. in the fruit department mandarins are offered at Is per dozen, pineapples Is to 2s each, sweet Island oranges 2s 6d to 4s per dozen, delicious apples and pears 6d per lb, and bananas from Is per dozen. Present fish prices .continue to remain firm: smoked fish (blue cod) Is 3d, flat fish (flounders) Is 3d, and round fish species at 8d to Is. Rabbits are fairly plentiful at 2s per pair, as also are crayfish at 3d to 2s (according to size) and oysters 9d to Is per dozen. Coming to the grocery department, eggs are still commanding Is Bd, while cheese Is 4d (prime) and Is (full cream), bacon Is 4d and Is (prime cuts), best grade butter- la 7d to Is lid, and sugar 701 b for 15s 9d, also remain unchanged. Jellies 5 packets for Is, choice dessert figs 2d per packet, cornflour 6£d lb, 2!b tins of pure assorted jams Is 3d, smoked sardines 4 tins for Is, and pure clover honey lOd per large tin afford seemingly cheap offerings. Meat prices reveal not the slightest fluctuation. With the coming of spring housewives are reminded that many of the leading city drapery houses are daily opening up the latest in new season’s goods.
