(From Our Own Correspondent.) MASTERTOI/ September 23. One of the most violent wind storms recorded in the history of Masterton was experienced last' night. Board fences and outbuildings were blown down in various parts of the district, windows smashed and much damage done to fruit gardens. At the annual meeting of the Carlton Cricket Club, last night, the following officers were elected for the ensuing year; —Patron, Mr G. R. Sykes, M.P.; president, Mr W. B. Chennells: vice-presi louts, Messrs H. M. Peacock, A. J. Yvelch, E. Welch,_ H. S. McLaren, B. Iveson, J. R. Nicol, R. Krahagen, T. G. Vangioni, D. MoLacklan, T. G. Hoar, T. Wyeth; general committee, Messrs J. Renner, F. Madsen, T. G. Vangioni, R. Cowie, D. Macdonald ; delegates to Wairarapa Association. Messrs F. P. Welch, J. Renner, T. G. Vangioni: secretary and treasurer, Mr F, P. Welch (re-elected); club captain,-Mr J. Renner. The appointment of a selection committee was referred to the committee. It was decided to enter a senior and a junior team in the competitions. The death occurred at, Greytown last night of an old Wairarapa settler in the person of Mr Charles Henry Tilyard, formerly of Morison’s Bush. Deceased was in his 60th year, and came to New Zealand from Tasmania, where he was torn, about sixty-five years ago. He worked for some years on the Whangaimoana station and on the Bidwill estate, and about twentyfive years ago purchased a farm at Morison’s Bush, retiring to Greytown to live len years ago. He leaves a family of six boys and four girls. Mrs Tilyard died 25 years ago.
At a complimentary dance given by the executive of the Masterton A mate ur Theatrical Society to the performers and helpers in the recent production of “Onr Miss Gibbs,” Mr H. F. Hugo (produce.) was presented with a carillon clock as a mark of appreciation of his services.
At a meeting of Wsiiarapa members of the New Zealand Friesian Association, held at Carterton yesterday, it was decided to form a Wairarapa branch of the association. The following committee was elected: Messrs W. Barton (Feitherston), P. Bain. P. Hodder (Carterton), O. A. Cadwaliader (Greytown), E. Knutson, W. S. Gallon (Dalefield), W. A. Miller (Kaiparoro), and Mr L. H. Smart (Carterton) secretary. It was decided to arrange for a Friesian display at the Wairarapa Show next jnonlh.
