MR ELL OPENS CAMPAIGN LABOUR LEADER ATTACKED. P«r Prp' A«eorfation CHRISTCHURCH, September 23. The political campaign in Christchurch was opened Inst night, when Mr H. G Ell, Progressive Liberal candidate for Christchurch South, addressed a meeting of twenty electors. He said that he was not in favour of taxation by wa7 of the Customs, and he would advocate lower duties on articles not; produced in the Dominion, but would place a higher dutv on motor vehicles. Ministers should he elected by the House itself, and he was not in favour of the abolition of the Upper House. He was a supporter of the Arbitration .Court and 44-hour week. He attacked Mr H. E. Holland for his advocacy at Russia, and said that he would, if eleefr ed. always vote against him. The < didate was accorded a voto of thanks
