The city has been startled and horrified at the brutal murder of Mrs Sophie Poleski, who was thrust alive into a furnace by George Symuk, her lover. . The woman was pushed m feet first and the heavy door clamped by Symuk, after 'he had struck her on the head with a bottle. Symuk, when arrested, said that the woman tried to poison him:
