STOLEN VARNISH

CARRIER’S LAPSE ADMITTED TO PROBATION. Before Mr C. R. Orr-Walker, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday William Henry Myerick, a motor driver, aged 36 years, charged with the theft of 21 tins of varnish valued at £26 ss, the property of Messrs R. and E. Tingey, pleaded guilty. Chief-Detective Kemp, in conducting the police case, stated that the accused was employed by Messrs R. and E. Tingey as a carter, and had stolen the varnish while carting away a load of rubbish. Myerick had, until this lapse, borne a good character, and his employers wore willing to allow him to return to his position. Myerick was admitted to probation for a period of two years, and ordered to make restitution of the amount Stolen, £26 ss—payments to be mads under such terms as decided upon by the probation officer.
