A sounding apparatus has been placed on the tug Dunedin, and the engineer of the Harbour Board (Mr Wilkie) and the harbourmaster (Captain Mac Lean) are at present carrying out investigations outside Otago Heads. The main purpose is to endeavour to secure data on the point whether drifting sand comes into the harbour or finds a resting place elsewhere. Information will also be obtained regarding the currents, etc. Already several shipments of the new season’s butter have been made from the Rangitikci and Manawatu districts - through Wanganui, and further shipments are to follow (says the “Herald"). Last season one of the Rangitikei companies shipped half the output through Wellington, and the other half f rom, Wanganui. It is interesting to mention that the Wanganui sbimnent reached Home in better condition.
