GILBY'S COLLEGE v. NELSON BEPBESENTATXVES. ' Although the eeasbn for the Basketball Association is now closed, the Wellington Ladies’ Basketball Association readily consented tp a return match being played between teams representing Gilby’s College and representatives of Nelson When-the Colljege team visited Nelson some, two months ago, it deleated Neb son by a substantial margin, but it was expected that a return game would not be so one-sided. The match was played on Saturday before a fair number of spectators t and proved that the members of the Nelson team have yet to go a long way to a each representative standard. By the courtesy of Messrs Bryant, May, Bell and Co., Ltd., the game was played on the match factory grounds, Tory street The high wind, and low sun in the first half, together with a ©man shower of rain in the second half, matie the conditions difficult. With a view to equalising the disadvantages, it was agreed to play four ten minute spells, two up and two down, in the place of the custoriiary two twentv minute spells. The teams were as follow: — Gilby's' College Misses A* Lithgow, Taylor, Hawkey, Leathwick, Stark, Wood, B. Lithgow, Mitchell, and M. McGuire., Nelson representatives—Misses Page. Logan, Smith, Patterson, Black, Braddock, Ingram, Gay, and Eiums. Mrs Gay acted as chaperin to the team Gilby's. playing with the wind in then favour. 6et up an attack from the stan, but Nelson defenders relieved, and give and take play followed for some minute::. Neither team handled the ball with great certainty, seeming to find, it difficult to pass accurately in tho high -wind. Strong pressure finally resulted in Ike local team drawing first blood, soon'following this up by two more goals. Gilby's scored again, before the first spell ended. Smarting off with the wind behind them Nelson made a better showing in the second spell, and two goals were scored in fairly quick Succession. The local team replied by adding three goals to its tally, and the second spell ended: Gilby's 14, Nelson' 4. The third spell opened with a wonderful shot by the captain for the local team, scoring another goal within ten seconds of_ play starting. After this, Nelson seemed unable to get going, and good chances were missed by poor passing, Gilby's steadily put on the points in the *hird and fourth spells, the grmc ending ; Gilby's 30, Nelson 4. Mr Campbell controlled the game in his uiual crisp, efficient style For tin? visitors. Miss Page and Mis* Logan each scored a goal. For Gilby's College. Miss A. Lithgow played a sterling game, and she and Miss Taylor shared the honours for the scoring. Miss Leathwick and Miss Stork were great aids in the centre, while the three defenders were able to overwhelm the Nelson attackers nearly all tho time.

After the game, the teams and officials were entertained to afternoon tea in the splendid hall attached to the match factory, tho ladies comprising '’Bry.-May*' Basket Ball team acting as hostesses, Mies Tait, representing the executive of the* Wellington Ladies' Basket Ball Association in a neat and happy speech, thanked Mr McLeay, manager tor Bryant and May, and the lady helpers f or tne excellent entertainment provided, and for the use of the grounds for the gome. Mrs Gay. on behalf of the Nelson team, added a few words expressing her appreciation of the excellence of \h*-. arrangements made on their behalf. Mr Mo Lea v briefly responded On Saturday evening and Sunday the

teams were the gue-t* of ihe director of Gilby's College, and a full programme of entertainment had been laid out lor the visitors right up to the hour cf their departure bv the s.s. Xikau on Uondiy night. Billets were provided by friends and supporters of the Basket Ball Association. The team expressed the -’pinion that apart from the result of the game, ■ their vi<*it had been exceptionally o!eu-e-ant and h very happy time.
