NEW INDUSTRY FOR N.Z.
PERMANENT ENAMELLING LOCAL FACTORY TO BE ESTABLISHED. One of the most progressive industries established in the Commonwealth during recent years is that of permanent enamelling. In Australia there are now 20 factories operating successfully. A movement to have the industry started in New Zealand has had the support of the Department of Industries and Commerce. This organisation, which is named the Standard Porcelains (N.Z.) Limited, has been formed to establish the industry in the Dominion where the leadless process of poroelain enamelling will be used. Baths, gas stoves, sanitary fittings, and many other articles of every day use will bo the principal output of the works. The local production of these goods will assist considerably in providing cheaper fittings for the construction of houses, business offices and public works. It is expected that the whole of th* staff with the exception of a few techy nical positions will be recruited local workers. Mr T. Reynolds is visiting New Zealand for a few months to assist Mr R. W. Sneddon, the managing director, in the organisation of the factory.
