“SWEATED” GOODS
BOYCOTT AND PROHIBITION BRITISH LABOUR PROPOSAL. . (Sydne* "Sun” Cable.) LONDON, August 6. • The “Standard” states that* .the Labour Party is on the eve of an important change in its fiscal policy. A private meeting of the party unant* mously approved a proposal to boycott, and prohibit “sweated” goods from, entering Britain. j If the party’s ftjll conference in September adopts the proposal it will become the settled policy of the party-. The committee appointed to investigate fiscal questions also recommends that goods produced by workers who work longer hours than the Washington Conference allows shall be regard-' ed as “sweated,” and so prohibited from entering the countries which have' signed the Convention. The committee believes that a 'warning would have s> salutary result in raising the status of workers in offending countries, and thereby eliminating unfair competition.
