TARANAKI OILFIELDS

AN EXPERT’S REPORT GAS A FAVOURABLE SIGN. Per Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, July 27. Taranaki Oilfields, Ltd., issue a report by Dr. Clapp respecting gas in the Moturoa bore. He says the quality of the gas has no significance as regards oil occurrence. -Its presence iB enoouraging, but proves nothing. Regarding the existence of oil. high pressure proves nothing regarding oil, but is a favourable sign. Considered with known oil occurrence, one or two thousand feet distant, it is qn indication that past oil operations and leakage have not appreciably removed the fluids from the immediate Moturoa locality. Oil operators generally consider the discovery of gas in the upper sand favourable, and dry gas not derogatory to deeper oil existence. The composition of the Moturoa gaa shows it ia not volcanic.
