MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL At the fortnightly meeting of . tie Lower Hutt Borough Council, he'd Inst evening, .the Mayor. (Mr W. T. Strand) presided. Councillors A. J. Hobbs, A_ Grierson, J. Mitchell, L. T. Watkins. E. W. Hunf, H. G. Teagle, sE. Waldie, W. G. Meldrum, and A. Mcßain. were also present. It was decided to consent to the recommendation of the Suburban Highway’s Board that ' the Wellington City Council should issue motor drivers’ licenses on behalf of the local bodies concerned. The couociJ decided to subsidise to the extent of 80s on every JBI the Poppy Day funds received from the R.S.A. for tho purpose of providing labour for unemployed returned soldiers. The proposal that a donation of JJSO be granted to the Lower Hutt Municipal Band was held over, with a view to the amount of the donation being increased. tin the motion of Councillor Mcßain, it was agreed that the amount of .£SO granted towards the entertainment of the American Fleet be spent locally. The by-laws committee submitted a recommendation to the effect that a new by-law be framed compelling all cyclists to carry a rear red reflecting light. The Hutt Golf Club wrote requesting permission to . erect a signboard on the electric light pole at the corner of Military toad.—This request was granted. A letter from the Lower Hutt Cricket Club stating that the Rugby Football and the Cricket Clubs had agreed i to tne proposal to contribute towards the cost of maintaining the telephone in the pavilion nt the Recreation Grounds was received.—The matter was referred to lbe works committee Fireman A. Wyeth, of the Lower Hutt Volunteor Fire Brigade, _ was granted a medal in recognition of his five years service. - ,
