NEW ZEALANDERS AT HOME

The "-British Australian and New Zealander" gives the following news of New Zealand people in the Old Country: Mr and Mrs Ralph Beetham, Mrs Beetham's daughter, Miss Violet Hutchinson, and Master Hugh Beetham, arrived last week in London, via New York, and expect to leave for New Zealand in November. Mr and Mrs Allan Smith, and their niece, of Wellington, are now in London, and are leaving for a tour of the battlefields and Paris. Before returning to New Zealand they intend visiting Palestine and Egypt. Mr and Mrs A. H. Newbigin and Miss Doreen Newbigin, of Hawke's Bay, have left London on a motor trip through tho North, where they will visit relatives at Newcastle, They leave England on June 27th by the Orama. Mr and Mrs W. F. Ward, of Wellington, and their daughter, are visiting Yorkshire and Scotland, and will take a motor trip in the South of England. 'Miss K. M. Francis, who has been away for some months, on a trip Home, is returning by the Oronsay, which leaves England in September. Mrs T. W. Waredell, of Masterton, and her daughetr, who will be here until October, will visit Scotland and the Continent.

After a-few weeks in London, Mr and Mrs P, J. Thurman, of Wellington, will make a general tour of England, Scotland, and the Continent. - Sir James Allen being absent at Gallipoli, Mr A. F. Roberts, New Zealand Exhibition Commissioner, represented him in Edinburgh at the Assembly of the Church of Scotland. By the invitation of Lord Elgin, High Commissioner to the Assembly, Mr Roberts stayed at Holyrood Palace, in which, as the King's representative, Lord -Elgin holds Court while the Church of , Scotland holds its session.

Mr and Mrs A. E. Roberts were among the guests last week at a reception given by Mr and Mrs Baldwin, at 10, Downing street. s Mrs William Johnstone, of Papatoetoe,and her little daughter, left for New Zealand by the Port Hardy. Dr. and Mrs John J. Edgar, of Napier, are staying with the former's brother. Major Edgar, at Battle, Sussex. ■' Mr F. JT Hill, of New Plymouth, will be in London for some weeks before visiting England, Scotland, and Paris. Mr and Mrs J. L Campbell, of Eltham, and Miss Campbell, left London last week for .the Flanders battlefields. Mrs J. E. Vernon, formerly of Palmerton North,' and her son, Mr T. R. Vernon, of Auckland, are at present in Scotland.

Misß J. K. Anderson, of _ Christchurch, hah been visiting Lincolnshire, Yorkshire, and Scotland, and will later visit the Continent.

Mr Henry H. Quinn, of Wiangarei, has come to England to study at the London University for honours in Modern Languages. Mrs E. V. Palmer, of Gisborne, and Miss Palmer, after touring in Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Spain and France, expect to be here until August, when they visit the Channel Islands and Scotland. They will probably be in Europe for two years. Mrs J. Alabaster, of Christchurch, is staying in Princes’ square, after visiting the graves of some of the N.Z.E.F. at Brockenhurst. Mrs Alabaster will spend the winter at Bournemouth, and will later visit Scotland and the Cumberland lakes.

Mrs Kennedy and Miss Margaret Kennedy, of Gisborne, were met on their arrival on tho Oronsay by Miss Thelma Kennedy, who has been over here some time. They will he in London for five months, and will then visit the Continent,, returning to England in April, 1926. Captain and Mrs Whitney and family, of Auckland, are now in London, after a visit to Naples and Brussels. They will make an extensive trip in the Mediteranean in June on Captain Whitney’s auxiliary yacht Una. ' Midshipman J. W. A. Whitney, R.N.R., left H.M.S. Repulse in -February to serve his time in a square-rigged vessel. ' Mrs A Swanston, of Christchurch, her mother, Mrs Shave, and her son, Mr F. R. Swanston, are in Londpn for some weeks before visiting the Channel Islands. On theif return they will travel in the North of Scotland. Mrs Swanston and her mother return to New Zealand for Christmas, but Mr F, R. Swanston will remain in England to study engineering. Mrs W. Harris, of Christchurch,... and' her daughter, who recently returned from a trip to France, will visit Wales next month. Lady Bell, of Wellington, and Miss Bell, arrived in England this week on 'a short visit, and are Staying at the Rembrandt Hotel. Mr and Mrs J. H. Turner, of Hawke’s Bay, will travel in England and Scotland before leaving for Switzerland in three months' time.

Mr and Mrs Dudley R. Edwards, of Nelson, after a few weeks in London, will go to Warwickshire and Dorsetshire, the English Lakes and Scotland.

Mr and Mrs Walter Potts and their son, of Christchurch, who have been on the Continent, are on a motor tour of the South of England and Wales. Mrs H. T. Merritt, of Auckland, is in England visiting her sons, four of whom are -at Clifton College. Mr Merritt arrives from the Dominion shortly. Mrs Carmalt Jones, of Dunedin, has returned from Washington, and is at present at Farnham Common, Bucks. Mrs C. H. Blyth and Miss Blyth are in London, and leave in July for. Norway, and in August return home via Singapore. 1

Mr William Baillie, who left Ireland 45 years ago to settle in Christchurch, is now staying with relatives at Ballynahinch, County Down. Mrs H. Louisson and Mrs J* F. Green, of Christchurch, have been staying in, Paris, and will now be in London . for some months.

Mrs and Miss Burnand!, of Manunni, will leave for Scotland at the end of the season, and will probably spend the winter on the Continent. s

Miss Lina Quinn, of Auckland, will shortly leave for Ireland to visit relatives. . She will later visit the Continent, before joining the Narkunda for Australia.

Mrs Florence Currie, of Auckland, is staying.at New Malden, Surrey, and will remain in England for a year before returning, via New York, Nova Scotia, and, Vancouver. ’

Mr and Mrs H.»Auty, of Hamilton, are now in Edinburgh, and will spend! most of their holiday visiting relatives in Scotland before returning, via Suez, at the end of September. Mr G. 11. M. Walton, of Christchurch, after come time in Canada, has arrived in London, and stays for a month before visiting Scotland and the Continent. Mr and Mrs Norman Hayes, of Kurow. and iheir son, arrived via the United States and Canada, and are now motoring through England and Scotland. Mr and Mrs Charles Cormack, of Eskdale, who have been in tho South of France and Italy, spent a few days'ln London, before leaving for Bristol and Taunton.

Mr F. V. Ellis, of Bulls, who is interested in stud sheep, will see some of the best tiocky during his stay in England. and visit some farms to-see presentdnv methods.

Mrs J C. Whiteman, of Papanui, has arrived in England with her three daughters, nfter spending three years in America. They will return to New Zealand shortly. Sir James Allen will 6pend the weekend at Bristol, in order to attend the Clifton College celebrations on the occasion of tho visit of General Sir Willinm Birdwood. The New Zealand Assistant Government Entomologist, Mr G. J. Myers, hus nrrived in London from the United States, in order to attend the entomological conference here. The marriage of Miss Florence Haggitt, daughter of Mr John Haggitt, of Roslyn, Dunedin, to Dr C. S. Hicks, took place this week at St. Jude’s Church, South Kensington. Dr and Mrs Hicks left by aeroplane for Amsterdam, and will spend six weeks on tlie Continent. Miss Marion Pickering, of Auckland, is now in North Wales Miss I. E Munro returned to New Zealand last week by the Moreton Bay. Mrs and Mias E. Nimon, of Havelock North, are visiting Devon and Somerset. Mis» ICnigge, of Auckland, who is at

present in Surrey, will return by the Usterley.

Dr L. M. Park, of Dunedin, is studying at the Middlesex Hospital for his FK.C.S.

Mr and Mrs Thomas Hoult, of Bunciman. will visit Derbyshire and the Midlands. Mrs H. Kohn. of Christchurch, is in England, after seven months on the Continent

Miss D. M.’-L. Stack has returned to England for the cummer from the Italian Riviera.

Miss Irene M. Chambers, of Havelock North, will shortly visit her sister at Bath. Miss E. L. Ostler, of Auckland, will leave London at the end of July for Devonshire.

Mr Reynolds, formerly of Rotorua, is visiting the Isle of Wight, Scotland, and Yorkshire. Mr and Mrs T. Elliott, of Papanui, will travel in Great Britain during the next few months. , • Mr and Mrs J. R. Franklin, of Wangadni, after visiting Oxford, left lest week for Ireland. ’

Mrs Beachen, of Auckland, after six months in the South of France, is alt Malvern, Worcestershire.

Mies A. Twigg has prrived from Napier. and is on a visit to Dr Twigg, at Ventnor, Isle of Wight. Mr V. B. V. Powell, who is at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, is in london on holiday. Mr J., B. Reynolds, of Auckland, after spending a fortnight in London, will go to Scotland and Switzerland.
