FREE USE OF TRAMS
MEN OF AMERICAN FLEET DECISION OF AUCKLAND COUNCIL. Far Pna -Association. AUCKLAND, Jnlv 24. The City Council has decided to allow the men of the American fleet to vse the city tramways free of charge while the vessels are at Auckland. Whfen the matter was under discussion, was suggested that an exceptidn be made in the case .of the two' race days during the fortnight of the fleet’s stay, when unusually heavy crowds have to he carried to the courses, but it was finally agreed there be ho restriction to the concession. It was mentioned that the Railway Department , might very well put on an extra train for conveyance of the men and so relieve the tram service of some of the traffic.
