MAINTENANCE FEES Mr C. M. Luke presided at the meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board yesterday. With reference to the Government grant of £SOO for furnishing two—or preferably three—bedrooms for mental patients awaiting medical examination, it was reegrpmended that an intimation be given to the Department of Public Health that tbe board h«s under consideration the question of this sum being adequate for tbe purpose suggested. Mr Chapman thought the committee should consider accepting the giant, as if the board decided to spend £IOOO the Government would have to pay another £SOO. The report was adopted. Permission was granted tbe house steward (Mr W. 15. Labone) to attend a conference, called by the Acting-Director-General of Health, to consider the co-ordination of the -purchase of stares and the establishment of a uniform stores system. The committee considered that representative members of several boards should also have been asked to attend so as to formulate the polioy. The following returns for the three months April-June were presented at the meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board yesterday, the figures in parentheses being the estimated figures. Gross ordinary expenditure, t,'bU,75U (£31,254); receipts, £BO2O (£8616). The patients’ fees committee reported that for the April-.luno quarter £551 had been' collected by the Commercial Agency, and that during the same period £4495 had been collected in maintenance fees, against £4417 for the corresponding quarter last yenr The amount estimated to to collected was £4125.
