MOUNTAIN HOUSE ROAD

EGMONT NATIONAL PARK. Mr S. G. Smith, the member for Taranaki, has been informed by the Hon. R. F. Bollard that the Egmont National Park Board is empowered by section 29 of the Egmdnt Park Act, to borrow with tin consent of the Minister for finance moneys for the purposes of erecting buildings, forming roads and other improvements. Such loans may be raised in the manner prescribed by the Local Bodies Loans Act without a poll on the security of the hoard’s funds and revenues. The State Advances Office is authorised to lend moneys for these purposes. A local authority can make contributions to the funds of the Egmont National Park Board out of its general funds. The Minister has requested the Minister for Public Works to arrange for provision being made on the previous estimates for a grant of £SOO toward the cost of maintaining the northern and southern roads to the mountain houses.
