“A TERRIBLE ROAD”

PORIRUA-PARAMATA. A city business man who has just returned from Palmerston North by motor called at the “Times” office yesterday to record a strong protest upon the state of tho road between Porirua and Paremata, for a distance of about two miles. A lot of cutting has been done on the side of the road and the clay has been deposited on tho road. The constant rain and motor traffic —the road so much used by motor-lorries carrying hegvy loads—-Jins churned the top until it is a mass of thick, greasy mud, anything from a foot deep and more. Very often the wheels skid in it and it is difficult to make progress, and at times a oar pushes a heap of mud along in front of it. Furthermore, it is dangerous to leave the main track to pass another vehicle as the risk of becoming bogged is very real. The complainant unluckily had to fall in behind three motor-lorries along this strio of road, and it took an hour to get through, and the 25 miles into Wellington took 2i hours. He was most emphatic in stating that if the present conditions go on for another two or three days the road will become quite impassable.
