MASSEY BURIAL GROUND

PORTRAITS OF PRIME MINISTER DISCUSSION IN THE HOUSE. In the House last evening the Prime Minister moved the second reading of the Massey Burial-ground Bill, which vas agreed to after brief speeches by the Prime Minister and the Leadjr of the Opposition. Mr C'oates shortly explained the provisions in the Bill, and Mr Wilford, on behalf of the Party led by him, supported the Bill and suggested that tne time had arrived when they should

have placed in the House _ in some prominent plane, good portraits of the Prime Ministers of the country. There was already a portrait of _ the late Prime Minister in the building, but to his mind it did not do him justice. Sitting opposite him in that House as he had done for 25 years, he had a good idea of what the late Prime Minister was like. The House should appropriate money for such » portrait which could be approved by a committee of the Parliament. Mr Ooates thanked the Deader of the Opposition for his support of the Bill, and the remarks he iiad just made. He agreed that there should he some suitable portrait of any Prime Minis-

ter who had served the country for a certain length of time placed in the House. We were perhaps losing touch with matters of history that would be appreciated two hundred years henco if suitable records were provided. This suggestion would hare the Government’s consideration. He wee glad the suggestion bad oome from the quarter it did. It mede it all the oasierrfor the Government to deal with th« question. The second reading was earned.
