“A STINGER!"

MR WRIGHT BECOMES CAREFUL WHY HE WILL NOT TALK It was with a view to securing a little enlightenment upon the' vital question of the city estimates, and the sweeping reductions that have been made in certain departments, that a “Times” reporter approached Mr R. A. Wright, chairman of the works committee of the City Council, yesterday, to question him upon several points in reference to the cuts that have been effected. Wr Wright, however, trod very warily, and literally beat about the bush for some time till finally, in the face of persistent questioning, he said; “Well, uo; I cannot give you anything until it goes before the council. You will remember .that your paper a little while ago put a ’stinger’ into me, and that has made me more careful.” Realising that he had at last secured the real reason for Mr Wright’s reticence, the reporter , withdrew. It is. interesting to recall that the “stinger” referred to by Mr Wright was when the “Times” animadverted on Mr Wright’s action in criticising at length the policy of the Tramways Committee, of which the Mayor is chairman.
