ORONGORONGO TUNNEL
PROGRESS REPORT KARORI MAIN WELD FORWARD. The progress report of the waterworks engineer to the City Council- (Mr J. M. Morice) upon the construction work of the Orongorongo tunnel states that the concrete lining of the small tunnel has been completed, and 1593 feet of the concrete lining of the Orongorongo tunnel itself has also been completed to date. This covers a distance of ,4100 feet from the Orongorongo entrance. In connection with the OrongorongoKarori water main, 244 chains of trenching have been completed to date, and 50 chains of 21-inch pipe laid, in spite of the fact that had weather has hampered operations there for some time; eight working days having been lost during the month of June through this cause. Bad weather, and in consequence bad roads, have also delayed the . delivery of the pipes for the Wainui work. On the Karori water supply the construction work required 13 miles of water-main and one 400,000 gallon reservoir, as well as one 50,000 gallon service reservoir. The laying of the water-mains has been completed, with the exception of a short-length between Donald and Duthie streets.
